2^ND ANNUAL FUMC BASKETBALL ACADEMY

Calling all 3^RD and 4^TH grade girls and boys for the 2^nd annual FUMC Basketball Academy that will take place January 28-March 7. Any and all skill levels are encouraged to participate. This is a youth basketball skills and development program in a Christian environment with fun, fellowship, and teaching of basketball skills and good character! Girls will practice Mondays and Wednesdays and boys will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30-5:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall with transportation from school available if necessary. In addition, all participants and parents are encouraged to attend an orientation meeting, Sunday January 13 at 5:00 p.m. at FUMC.

Sunday School Program

SUNDAY SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

The Children’s Christmas Program will be Sunday, December 16 at 5:00 p.m. The Youth Group has taken the lead on producing the play and also providing the music for the evening. Come join the children and youth as they provide a great night of hearing what Christmas is truly about!! A short reception of cookies and punch will follow in West Fellowship Hall

POPCORN SALES!

 

During the month of October, the Cubscouts of Knoxville Pack 362 will be selling Trails End popcorn. This is the biggest fundraiser for the Cubscouts during the scouting year. We will have a representative present after first and second services for the next (3) three Sundays, October 14, 21, and 28. YOUTH GROUP NEWS

After a summer break we are ready to kick off a new year of FUMC Youth Group! All youth in 7th through 12 grades are invited to join us on Sunday, October 14 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Marion County Park (shelter by the covered bridge) as we kick off a new year of youth group. In case of rain we will meet at the church. All youth are encouraged to invite their friends to this event and every Sunday. A full schedule of youth group dates will be given out on the 14th. We hope to see all of our youth at this event!!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

In an effort to make FUMC Youth Group a weekly event for the youth of FUMC, we are looking for volunteers that would be willing to give of their time and talents on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 pm once per month. These volunteers would lead the youth in Bible study, games, and activities on their given Sunday. The youth are the future of the church and are worth investing our time and energy. Plus, they are a great group of kids that are fun to be around and that have a lot of great ideas for our church, community, and world!! If God moves your heart to help in the faith development of our youth, please call Katie or Brian Bishop at 641-828-6933.

KNOXVILLE CROP WALK

On Sunday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m. the Knoxville CROP Walk will take place. Walkers from our church include Deb Harvey, Brent Hanna, the Hibma family, the Purvis Family, and the Redden Family. If you would like to donate please contact one of these walkers and/or make your check payable to CWS/CROP. $25 can provide 50 baby chicks to a village, providing protein and income. $50 can provide seeds and tools to help 3 families start a garden. $110 can provide emergency food for a family of five for a month. $150 can send six women to literacy classes and empower them for life. GRADUATING SENIORS

Congratulations to the graduating seniors! Ross Chrisman and Xenia Macritacia will be recognized on Sunday, May 6th at the 8:30 service for their achievement. We wish them many blessings in their future endeavors.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER RECOGNITION

Thank you to those who served as Sunday school teachers this year!! You are what make the education of our church flow. Please join the Education Committee in thanking these great volunteers on Sunday, May 20 at both services.

SUNDAY SCHOOL SCHEDULE

There will be no children’s Sunday school classes Memorial Day weekend (May 27^th) through Labor Day weekend and will resume the regular schedule on Sunday, September 16.

VBS UPDATES

The dates have been set, July 22–26. The theme has been picked, Son World Adventure Park. Now all we need are some willing volunteers who are ready to have fun sharing the love of Jesus with the children of our church and community. Watch the bulletins in May and June for details and meeting times for those interested in helping with VBS.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS

The Youth Group will be traveling to the St. Louis area over Memorial Day weekend for a mission trip. The students are excited and will be sharing their experience in June so watch for more details.

Fundraiser for Youth

 
On Friday, April 13 join the FUMC Youth for a spaghetti dinner with all the fixings and then stay to watch the movie "Courageous". The meal will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 in WFH and the movie will start at 6:30 in the sanctuary. A free will offering will be taken to help support the Youth trip to Chicago this summer.

IUMF College Scholarships available

The Iowa United Methodist Foundation offers a number of scholarship opportunities to college-bound Iowa Methodists. Methodist scholarships exist to assist members of the faith in attending college and achieving their educational goals. Applications and criteria are currently available at www.iumf.org. Applications and all required material must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2012 to be eligible.

YOUTH GROUP

Winter Jam will be held at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, January 20. If any Youth are interested in attending let Katie and Brian know. Tickets are $10 at the door. Some of the artists included this year are Toby Mac and Third Day.

Youth Group will be meeting on January 8 and January 22 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the church.
